Non woven geotextiles are often used as drainage materials in engineering. Non woven geotextiles not only have the ability to drain water along the body in its planar direction, but also can play a reverse filtering role in the vertical direction, which can better balance the two functions of drainage and reverse filtering. Sometimes, in order to take into account other requirements for materials under actual working conditions, such as the need for high damage resistance, woven geotextiles can also be used. Geocomposite materials such as drainage boards, drainage belts, and drainage nets can also be used when materials require relatively high drainage capacity. The drainage effect of geosynthetics is commonly used in the following areas:
1) Vertical and horizontal drainage galleries for earth rock dams.
2) Drainage under the protective layer or impervious layer on the upstream slope of the dam.
3) Drainage inside the soil mass to dissipate excess pore water pressure.
4) In soft soil foundation preloading or vacuum preloading treatment, plastic drainage boards are used instead of sand wells as vertical drainage channels.
5) Drainage at the back of the retaining wall or at the base of the retaining wall.
6) Drainage around the foundation of structures and around underground structures or tunnels.
7) As a measure to prevent frost heaving in cold regions or salt salinization in arid and semi-arid regions, capillary water blocking drainage layers are installed under the foundations of roads or buildings.
8) It is used for drainage of the base layer under the sports ground or runway, as well as drainage of the surface layer of exposed rock and soil.
